Chilton Juniors Football Club marked a significant milestone this month as players, volunteers, families and supporters gathered for the club’s first annual awards night – an evening that proved to be both a celebration and a heartfelt tribute.
The special event brought together every generation of the club, from its youngest players taking their first steps in football to the longest-serving volunteers whose dedication has helped shape Chilton Juniors over the years.
A highlight of the evening was the introduction of three memorial awards, named in honour of local footballing legends who sadly passed away during the last year. The awards commemorate Kevin “Simmer” Simpson, Eric “Monty” Campbell and Alan “Billy” Cornbill – three men whose contribution to football and the local community left a lasting impact.
In a touching moment, members of each family’s relatives attended the ceremony to present the awards bearing their loved ones’ names. Their presence added a deeply personal element to the occasion, with many in attendance reflecting on the memories, friendships and legacy left by the three men.
While the evening recognised individual achievements across the club, it was also an opportunity to celebrate the wider Chilton Juniors family. Players were applauded not only for their performances on the pitch but for the pride and commitment they show every time they wear the club badge.
Club officials described the event as a night of remembrance and recognition – recognition of those no longer with us, of the volunteers and supporters who keep the club thriving, and of the young players who represent its future.
There were smiles, applause and moments of emotion throughout the evening, but above all there was a strong sense of togetherness. The awards night served as a reminder that Chilton Juniors FC is more than just a football club; it is a community built on shared memories, dedication and pride.
As the club looks ahead to the future, its first annual awards night will be remembered as a fitting tribute to three local legends and a celebration of everyone who makes Chilton Juniors what it is today.
