Cast your vote on Cavalcade idea

With the upcoming Stockton and Darlington Railway Bicentenary next year, Shildon Town Council is asking residents to take part in a town-wide vote.

Councillors are asking for you to vote either YES or NO to a “Little Street Cavalcade” created by and for the people of Shildon to celebrate this internationally important 200th anniversary of the railway that got the world on track.

The proposed celebration remembers the former annual Shildon Cavalcade, when decorated floats paraded their way through the town before everyone headed the to Scouts Field to enjoy the fairground.

On this occasion, the idea is that people will work in separate community groups under an organising committee made up from across the groups with new groups welcomed to join.

Each group will create a little locomotive train or wagon that can be pushed, pedalled or pulled, or carry a banner.

The community project will culminate on a Saturday afternoon in August when there will also be a fun event in Hackworth Park with stalls, live music, food and drink.
