Windscale too powerful as Athletic bow out

Windscale’s aerial threat proved too much for Ferryhill Athletic in the Sunderland Shipowners Cup.

Wearside Premier league side Windscale were too strong for Ferryhill Athletic on Saturday and made progress into the next round of the Sunderland Shipowners Cup with a 6-2 win, reports Fraser Reynolds.

Ferryhill played good football throughout but couldn’t cope with the aerial threat of the much bigger Cumbrian outfit who dominated from set pieces to lead 4-0 at the interval.

The Athletic hit a purple patch early in the second half with well taken goals from Morland and Richardson but after hitting the post at 4-2 they petered out as the Cumbrians added another two goals on the break. Ferryhill’s man of the match was Tom Olley.

It is back to league duty this Saturday as Athletic play host to Belmont United at Dean Bank with kick off scheduled for 2.30pm.
