Students at Whitworth Park Academy had much to celebrate when they collected their long-anticipated GCSE and vocational qualification results.
Results were once again amongst the best in County Durham and show that the school continues to make good progress. Most year 11 children from the academy have been able to progress to their chosen destinations. The school is reporting excellent results across the cohort representing the focus that every child is supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves daily.
Stand out results were gained by students across a number of subjects including Bethany W. who achieved 5 grade 9s, 4 Grade 8s and L2D*. Other higher attaining students include Tia H., Ruby P. and Luke S. to name a few. A staggering 198 top grades were awarded. Many students performed better than their academic targets. Congratulations to Jessica W., Laura B., Amy G., Kelwyn M., Leon P. and Cameron G. amongst others.
Stuart Dixon, the academy’s Headteacher said: “It has been a real privilege to see the hard work of our year 11 children pay off. The grit, commitment and dedication leading up to and throughout the examination period has well and truly been recognised with these results.
“I would like to congratulate each one of our ‘class of 2023’. These spectacular results are due to their diligence, along with the incredible support given by staff and families. The results are testament to the hard work and expertise of Mr. Stone, the previous Headteacher, for leading the school through a period of change which has allowed us to continue to celebrate outstanding performances now and in the future.”
The school has performed very well in many subject areas, particularly in the vocational and creative subjects, such as Photography, Business, Sports and Arts. Many students had outstanding results in English, with record results for the second year in succession. Attainment in English and Maths is above the average of all other schools in County Durham.
Members of the Academy Council would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all 2023 leavers on their success and thank the staff at the academy for their continued dedication and expertise. The academy is looking forward to welcoming children back to school on Tuesday 5 September for Year 7 and the rest of the school on Wednesday 6 September.
Whitworth Park Academy would also like to invite all prospective students and their families to the Open Evening on Thursday 21 September with Headteacher’s welcome at 6pm and 6.45pm.
