Wellbeing coach offers free fitness classes to practice patients

NHS Health and Wellbeing coach, Ian McGhee is offering free classes at convenient times for working people.

An NHS Heath and Wellbeing coach is offering free fitness classes to patients of Jubilee Medical Practice and other local doctors’ surgeries.

“My role as health and wellbeing coach is to help anyone who is looking to make positive changes within their life,” said Ian McGee.

“I support people to make more informed and conscious choices about their health. I work with people who are at risk of long-term health condition or living with long term health conditions.

“This could be obesity, musculoskeletal issue, managing pain, hypertension, diabetes, and stress or anxiety.

“I offer a non-judgmental and supportive environment, during our sessions we explore non-medical ways to improve your health and wellbeing.“

The classes are aimed at those who want to a good workout and will involve circuits, High Intensity Interval Training, body pump style, boxercise and more.

“You don’t need to be super fit,” says Ian, “all levels of fitness are welcome.

“Whether you’re at the start of your journey or have been exercising for years, you will get a good workout. I do want to point out that classes could involve body weight exercises such as push ups, squats and burpees.”

When Ian was researching what free classes are available, he was shocked, he said, to discover that they are all during the day, when the majority of people are at work.

“There also didn’t seem to be any free classes aimed at people who work and want more than chair based exercise or a walk,” he said. “I couldn’t find any free exercise classes that help people work towards the NHS guidelines of doing at least 150 minutes of moderate, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity exercise per week.

“So I came up with the idea to create my own free exercise class.

“We are all feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis, I’m hugely passionate about helping people see the benefits of exercise and this seemed like a great place to start.”

If you’re a patient of Jubilee Medical groups, Hallgarth Surgery, Peaseway Surgery or Bewick Crescent then you’re eligible to attend the classes.

You do need to book and can’t just turn up. This is due to numbers and to ensure that everyone gets a turn.

You can book by contacting Ian directly on 07756 294076 or by emailing Ian.McGee[@]nhs[.]net.
