A trio of intrepid cycling friends are set to embark on their latest fundraising ride for charity.
On Sunday 26 May, Michael Fitzgerald, Eric Stapleton and Michael Brown, who call themselves the 3 Roosters, will take part in the Ride London – Essex 100 cycling event.
This is an organised annual event with around 20,000 cyclists taking part along a 103-mile route finishing on Tower Bridge.
The ride must also be completed within eight hours.
The friends, who have taken part in fundraising cycle rides previously, have decided to take on this challenge to raise funds for two causes.
“Heart disease has personally affected our family and friends,” said Michael Fitzgerald, and only recently a customer had a heart attack in the Fish Bar in Newton Aycliffe which Eric manages. While the customer was being given CPR on the floor of the shop, Michael ran to retrieve the nearest defibrillator which was then used to save the customer’s life.
“So this year we will be raising funds for The British Heart Foundation and local charity Missed A Beat who install defibrillators in vital places like schools, parks, and other public areas around County Durham.
“The British Heart Foundation fund around £100 million of research every year into all heart and circulatory diseases and their causes, be it heart diseases, stroke, vascular dementia or diabetes – they are all connected.
“We would be very grateful for your support with these worthy causes and whatever you can donate will be much appreciated.”
