Once again over 40 walkers travelled from County Durham and Darlington to North Yorkshire, to enjoy varied walks between Grassington and Kettlewell, writes Andy Jakob.
Some considered that the benefits of cafes in both towns should be enjoyed and took a shorter 7-8 mile walk on largely low-lying paths.
Others took more adventurous routes via Threshfield Moor to Conistone to join the Dales Way at Kilnsey and then across some rocky inclines near Cove Scar before dropping down into Kettlewell.
A much more adventurous group of walkers chose a circular from Kettlewell passing through old mine workings to Tor Mere Top, across Starbotton Fell to Buckden Pike at 702 metres.
Descending into Buckden village for a well-deserved beverage, they enjoyed a more sedate amble beside the river back to Kettlewell.
Despite the threat of afternoon rain, the bad weather stayed away with only a few very short showers.
The hospitality in Kettlewell with its three pubs, cafes and village store provided ample opportunity to mingle and exchange stories of the day. Fed and watered, we boarded the coach for the journey home, and the heavens opened!
The next walk, on Saturday 11 October, is in the South Pennines area of Keighley with walks focusing on the Worth Way (an interesting 11-mile circular via Oxenhope and Haworth).
Shorter and longer options are also available.
