Over 20 people have volunteered to join forces in the production of a documentary about the past, present and future of Bishop Auckland.
The project is the brainchild of local amateur film-maker Chris Anderson, who grew up in the town but now lives in the Tyne Valley.
Chris made a film about Bishop Auckland and its unique community spirit in the 1970’s and was inspired by the Eleven Arches project to harness the enthusiasm of the people once again. He posted his idea on the ‘History of Bishop Auckland’ Facebook page and within the hour had been inundated with enquiries and offers of help.
The group met up for the first time on Wednesday 20th July at the Castle Hotel in Bishop Auckland, where they shared ideas and created a plan of action. The volunteers include professional camera operators, photographers, students, teachers and retired people, all of whom are passionate about Bishop.
The film will include factual information about the town’s past and present as well as a selection of personal memories and stories about the area. There will be interviews with local people and a celebration of famous people who were born or lived here.
The regeneration of Bishop Auckland and the strength of the community will be the main theme.
It is hoped the film will be finished and ready to view early in the new year.
