Local volunteers picked up a paint brush and roller to support the Chilton: Our People, Our Place, Our Heritage project.
The Miners’ Welfare Recreation Ground Charity put out a call for up to ten local residents to help paint the interior of the Chilton’s historic Pavilion building as part of the restoration work to repurpose it as a heritage exhibition centre.
Sue Reece, Project Sponsor, said: “Thank you to Sandra Roscher, Elizabeth Bruce, Fiona and Kevin Cameron, Symone Arthurs, Andy Coulthard, Ben Race, Kate Dearlove and David English for giving up their time to help us take another step forward in our bid to deliver a contemporary community space to showcase Chilton’s rich heritage.
“Some of us may have ended up with more paint on us than the wall but it was all good fun and I’m sure the photograph’s will eventually find their way into the digital archive.”
The project to restore the Pavilion Park and create the Chilton Archive & Heritage Trail is funded by the Heritage Lottery, Miners Welfare Recreation Ground Charity, NEAMSWTF, Durham County Council, Green Energy and Livin and is on schedule to open to the public in September.
