Special free ‘Chilton at War’ mini-exhibition and themed menu at the Pavilion this Remembrance Weekend

Chilton residents will have an additional opportunity to reflect, remember, and pay their respects this Remembrance Weekend with a special free-to-enter mini-exhibition hosted at the Our Heritage in the Pavilion” centre.

The dedicated exhibition, titled “Chilton at War,” has been curated to showcase the town’s rich wartime history and to deeply commemorate all those from the local community who served and gave their lives in global conflicts. There is no admission fee to attend, and visitors will be able to explore moving local archives, photographs, and historical accounts detailing how the world wars touched the families and streets of Chilton and Windlestone.

The exhibition will be open to the public during the following hours

  • Saturday: 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Sunday: 12:00 noon – 3:00pm

There is free onsite parking available at the venue.

The Sunday opening will commence following Chilton’s traditional Remembrance Day service, providing a welcoming, accessible space for attendees to gather, connect, and continue their reflections together.

To fully immerse visitors in the era, the Pavilion will be serving an authentic, specially crafted wartime menu. Guests can step back in time and sample a variety of home-front classics, including: Camp Coffee: Enjoyed as a nostalgic wartime drink with a modern-day twist ‘latte’ or ‘cappuccino’, NAAFI Corned Beef & Potato Pie, served with traditional brown sauce, “Dig for Victory” Vegetable Broth and “Ration Book Bake”: A delicious, authentic wartime carrot cake.

The historical atmosphere will be completed by the unforgettable background music of Dame Vera Lynn and other iconic wartime entertainers, bringing the sights and sounds of the 1940s back to life.

Alongside the historic displays, the heritage centre will be actively supporting the Royal British Legion, where members of the community can pick up their poppies and make a donation to the annual Poppy Appeal. So come along, view the free exhibition, and enjoy the food and music. Whether you are looking to research local heritage or quietly honour the memory of the fallen, a warm welcome awaits everyone.
