Veterans Breakfast Club Restarts

The Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club was set up by British Army Veteran Cllr Pete Molloy.

Last month, veterans finally reunited their breakfast club in a Spennymoor pub, after Covid-19 restrictions prevented it from taking place for a year.

The Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club (S.V.B.C.) have been meeting up in Wetherspoons Grand Electric Hall every six weeks, and have had new veterans turning up at every meeting.

British Army veteran Cllr Pete Molloy, set up the first gathering of the S.V.B.C. after he had been invited last year to bring veterans into Wetherspoons by its manager, Shell Adams.

Mr Molloy said, “The breakfast club is very much an informal gathering of veterans, which has enabled those veterans who have settled in the Spennymoor area that are not originally from the town, to come together socially with other veterans in a relaxed environment and as a result new friendships have been created.

“It is always good to see new veterans attend the breakfast club and I think the frequency of how often they are held has maintained the veterans interest, which they look forward to the next gathering and it also enables them to attend other established veterans breakfast clubs in the region.”

The veterans organise their gatherings through the Facebook group: Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club, where the details of the next gathering in September will be published.

For those veterans that are not on Facebook, please email Pete Molloy at molloy418@googlemail.com for further information and details surrounding the club.
