The weekend prior to Storm Darragh, Chilton Juniors U14’s were at home to Newton Aycliffe Youth U14 who are currently second in the league, reports Mick Fieldson.
Chilton got off to the worst possible start and quickly found themselves 2-0 down with 10 minutes played. However, the lads dusted themselves down, rolled their sleeves up and started to force Aycliffe back. The pressure was building and after Chilton hit the post, the goal finally came to get them back in it. They didn’t stop there and quickly turned the game on its head to go into half time 3-2 up.
The second half started where the first left off and the goals kept coming with some expert finishing to go 5-2 to the good. Chilton seemed to take their foot off the gas at this point. which allowed Aycliffe to grab another goal to make it 5-3. But yet again the lads responded and extended their lead further with another good finish. The game looked dead and buried at 6-3 but Aycliffe kept going and managed to grab another two goals leading to a nervy final few minutes, but the lads held on for a final score of 6-5 after an 11-goal thriller.
Goals from Kai (4), Odin and Ryan with Kai, who looked dangerous throughout and was rewarded with four really good goals, also picking up the Man of the Match accolade. Added to their draw away at league leaders, Whitby Fishermen’s the previous weekend, the result sees Chilton occupy fourth spot in the table on 16 points.
Next up is a trip to Middlesbrough this Sunday to take on Prissick Rovers Athletic, currently three points behind Chilton.
