A thief has been jailed for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to a burglary at Shildon Football Club.
In July last year, Mark McGurk broke into the cellar of the football club and stole bottles of alcohol, totalling around £300.
He also caused significant damage, costing the club around £1,000 in repairs.
Before being arrested, McGurk used a stolen bank card to purchase items at a newsagent in Bishop Auckland and fast food from McDonalds.
McGurk was soon identified from CCTV of the burglary in progress and his DNA was also found on a discarded bottle.
He plead guilty at an earlier court hearing to fraud and burglary.
The 44-year-old, from Bishop Auckland, appeared at Durham Crown Court on 27 January and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
DC Joshua Chew, from South Durham Volume Crime team said: “This type of offending is totally unacceptable and affects the whole community.
“I hope this sentence provides the victims, local businesses and residents with a sense of security knowing McGurk has been put behind bars for a year, stopping him from committing any further crime any time soon.”
