Table tennis players “Hungary” for success

Four players from Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club took part in an international tournament from Tuesday 17th until Friday 20th May in Hungary.

The team of six represented the club in an international challenge event and included Emma Smith, Troy Maddison, Jack Jacomb and Sam Hume.

All players competed in a team singles event which was separated into boys and girls matches which was then followed by 3 doubles matches: a boys’ doubles team, a girls’ doubles team with the remaining two players playing a mixed doubles match.

The final medals matches saw a strong Romanian side come out victorious, meaning a silver would be best place finish if the team could beat host country, Hungary.

The match started well with Sam, Jack and Troy all winning their singles before the girls lost their singles games.

Sam and Jack combined to win the boys’ doubles match but the girls lost theirs to leave the match at 4-4 going into the mixed doubles.

Troy and Emma battled hard but went down in the 5th set to leave the team in 3rd place.
