It has been a pleasure this year to serve as Town Mayor of Spennymoor since May. During this time, I have had the privilege of representing our town at local events, and around the region.
Christmas is a special time of year, and my Christmas Spirit was ignited at the Civic Carol Service earlier this month.
There, we are always reminded of the true meaning of Christmas, joining together in songs and readings which tell the Christmas story, guided by the fantastic Graham Wharton from the Salvation Army, who year after year provides our town with a lovely service.
This year, we also had the pleasure of being joined by young people from Sunderland and Monkwearmouth Young People’s Band, King Street Primary School and Ox Close Primary School.
There’s something truly special about how our town and our community comes together for these events, and I am very proud to be part of it.
Christmas is also a time where we think of those less fortunate than ourselves, and with that I am proud to be supporting three fantastic causes through my Charity Appeal this year: The Learning Library, Moors in the Community, and the Local CDDFT NHS Charity, specifically to support the Special Care Baby Units of County Durham and Darlington.
Whatever your plans at this festive time, I wish you all great peace and happiness and hope that you will all enjoy the season together with good company.
