Some of the best things in life can’t be wrapped up and put under a tree. You can’t get the tape and paper and hide ‘Joy’, ‘Love’ or ‘Hope’ under the tree!
However, at Christmas, we celebrate the arrival of a baby who brings with him joy, love and hope.
He was no ordinary baby. Well, actually, he was a baby like we all were at the beginning of our lives.
But marvellously, the baby born at the first Christmas was God the Son assuming human flesh.
He lived among people like us, was compassionate and caring to people like us. And he died our sort of death.
However, he did all of that so that he could offer us things like forgiveness of wrongdoing and eternal life.
What a joy to know the love of the one who came to bring us such hope! Joy, love and hope, three things you can’t wrap and put under the tree!
They come to us anyway as a gift from God through his son, Jesus Christ.
So may you find joy, love and hope around you this Christmas because of Jesus.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Whitworth and St Paul’s churches.
