The Moors in the Community Christmas Draw tickets went on sale earlier in the month at The Brewery Field, but there’s still plenty of time to get your ticket and enter the draw, which includes a range of huge cash prizes up for grabs this festive season.
With tickets priced at just £1 each, you could scoop the jackpot of £500, while there are also chances to win £300, £100 and a range of other top prizes.
Every penny raised from the Christmas Draw will go towards Moors in the Community’s great work across the local area, including their various festive projects.
Tickets are on sale now from the Neil Adams Sports Bar and from Spennymoor Town FC Fans Group, as well as from sellers at The Brewery Field before kick-off at home games.
The draw will be made after the Chorley game on Boxing Day.
Meanwhile, the first team’s poor run of form on the pitch continued last weekend after a 2-3 home defeat to Buxton.
Moors came back from behind twice in the game before Diego De Girolamo’s injury-time penalty settled a fiery encounter at The Brewery Field.
Next up for Moors is a tough trip to Hereford, who currently sit in fourth place, albeit just five points ahead of Moors in 11th.
That game will be followed by back-to-back encounters with Chorley, at home on Boxing Day and away on 30 December. Moors’ first game of the new year will be at home to Brackley Town.
With all of their opponents in the festive holidays currently above them in the league, this could be a season-defining period for the Moors.
The Ladies, meantime, enjoyed another dominant performance on their final outing of 2023 earlier in the month, as Redcar Town were swept aside in cold and wet conditions at New Ferens Park.
Billy Shackleton’s side had been without a game in a fortnight and hadn’t played in the league for over a month – and they looked keen to make up for lost time from the first whistle.
It took just 10 minutes for Moors to break the deadlock. Hannah Knox whipped a teasing ball into the box which was controlled by Drew Seymour before she unleashed a spectacular overhead kick which looped over the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in fine style.
Moors took confidence from the early goal and remained a real threat going forward as Caitlin Bates linked-up well with recent signing Abi Kisby to cause problems for the visiting defence.
On 16 minutes the pressure told when Kisby helped herself to a first Moors goal, producing a calm finish past the keeper after she found herself well placed to shoot.
Neve Jackson came close to adding a third when she flashed a shot just past the post, while both Bates and Courtney Mole drew good saves from the Redcar keeper as Moors continued their dominance into the second half.
However, it took until 12 minutes from time for the game to be wrapped up and this time it was Holly Middleton who was on target, scampering on to Coral Colledge’s through-ball to net her first league goal for the club.
The visitors did grab a consolation goal near the end, much to the frustration of Moors keeper Sophie Millier and her defence, but it didn’t take the shine off another good win to underline an excellent 2023.
Moors sit third in the table, just a point behind South Shields and five behind Sunderland West End, who have played a game more, but will have to wait until the new year to play their next league match, away at Wallsend BC Women on Sunday 7 January.
