Shildon Running & Athletics Club were honoured to once again be part of the Shildon Remembrance Parade on Sunday, laying a wreath at the Cenotaph. Emma Flynn, who laid the wreath, said: “This was my first time laying a wreath for the Running Club and I found it very emotional.” Other Shildon runners chose to show their respect by taking part in a My Poppy Run around Shildon and Bishop Auckland.

The run enables any one (or team) to run in aid of the Royal British Legion without travelling to an organised race.

Once entered online, runners can simply run the 5K distance at a location to suit them, joining hundreds of other runners across the country in a ‘virtual’ Poppy Run.

Hazel Johnson took part in the Windmill Remembrance Sunday 10K in Lancashire, where a two-minute silence was held before the start of the race.

Hazel completed the course in a new personal best time of 45 minutes, 16 seconds.

Elsewhere Richard Trowles came a brilliant 4th in the Hamsterley Forest five mile run with a time of 34 minutes, 4 seconds.

If you’re interested in joining Shildon Running & Athletic Club you can contact them by email at secretary@shildonrunning.co.uk or if you’re a runner over the age of 18 you can go along and join them for a run on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6.15pm at Sunnydale Leisure Centre.
