Saint John’s Church was filled with the sound of children singing on Friday 24th October.
Planned and led by the children of Saint John’s CofE (Aided) Primary school, the theme of the end of half term service was ‘Remembrance’.
Pupils were shocked to discover that 22 children die every hour as a result of war or terrorism. Y5 pupil Mark described war as ‘angry people with guns’ and a candle was lit to remember the child who somewhere in the world was cowering as the noise of bombs and guns echoed around, even as the children sang.
A remembrance quiz was led by Damien with the school remembering a variety of characters and people who had played a part in their lives.
Summing up Revd. David commented, “This poignant service was put together by children to remember children, the victims of poor choices made by adults who should know better.”
The pupils were all given a poppy sticker to help them remember as they went back to school afterwards.
