Recycle your old small electrical items

Residents can recycle their small unwanted electrical, battery-operated items, and also spent batteries with Durham County Council

Shildon Town Council is working with Durham County Council to recycle your small unwanted electrical, battery-operated items, and also spent batteries.  

You can drop off items at Shildon Town Council offices Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.  

Other locations in the area where items can be dropped off include;

Bishop Auckland 

  • Woodhouse Close Church Community Centre, Proudfoot Drive, Bishop Auckland, DL14 6PD 
  • Woodhouse Close Leisure Complex, Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland, DL14 6JX 

Ferryhill and Chilton

Please be aware opening times for each collection point locations change on a week-by-week basis.

Contact each centre individually for advice on opening hours for that week.

The collection points can only accept items that fit into a carrier bag, items accepted include.

  • Remote controls 
  • Electronic toys 
  • Headphones 
  • Hairdryers 
  • Hair straighteners/Curling tongs 
  • Hair trimmers 
  • Electric shavers 
  • Electric toothbrushes 
  • Kettles 
  • Digital alarm clocks 
  • Irons 
  • Toasters 
  • Sandwich makers 
  • Electric scales 
  • Blenders 
  • Power tools 
  • Sat Navs 
  • Digital cameras 
  • Handheld game consoles 
  • Tablets and phones 
  • Extension leads 

Any items not small enough to fit in a carrier bag, should be recycled at a Durham County Council Household Waste Recycling Centre

Remember to enter the free competition and be in with a chance to win a prize in the monthly draw, courtesy of AO.com

To enter email your details to- wasteaware@durham.gov.uk or call 07342 085 655 with the name of the item you recycled (for example, kettle) quoting collection number 14. 

You will then be entered into the month’s free prize draw.  Winners will be picked at random and notified by email.
