Shildon Railway Cricket Club’s two senior sides cruised to victories in the beautiful summer sunshine, as both teams consolidated their positions near the top of their respective leagues, reports John Brennan.
At SecuriCorp Park the visitors were Blackhall, in the North Yorks & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2 fixture, and having won the toss, they put Shildon into bat. The 50 overs saw the home side reach 205 for 6, with Aussie pair Ryan Nangle (53 not out) and Jacob Dinger (44) top scoring. Blackhall’s reply never really got going, as wickets fell at regular intervals. Only number seven, Patrician Savarimuthu (51 not out) put up any resistance, as the Seasiders tumbled to 90 all out. Shildon allowed their opening pair of Ryan Nangle (3-72) and James Haggaty (6-18) to bowl the 19 overs it took to achieve the win, which takes the Railwaymen to third place in the division.
Next Saturday, Shildon are away to Barnard Castle. Meanwhile, Chris Young’s 4 for 28 and Michael Roberts’s 4 for 15 for the 2nd XI tore the heart out of Barton, as the home team was all out for 96 in the 37th over. Shildon’s opening pair of Ashley Raine (60 not out) and Shane Rowley (29 not out) then raced to victory in only the 14th over, taking the team to second place in the Darlington & District Cricket League Division C.
On Saturday, Etherley will visit SecuriCorp Park in the next league fixture. As the Crier goes to press, the 2nd team entertain Eryholme in the FB Howell Trophy and the 3rd team entertain Cliffe – weather permitting.
On Monday 26th, the 2nd team host Haughton in the Cec Leece Cup and on Wednesday 28th, the 1st team are at home to Barnard Castle in the 100 Cup.
