More than 500 pupils from Bishop Barrington School, Cockton Hill Juniors and Hamsterley Primary school have taken part in the Tesco Great School Run, the UK’s biggest fun run involving more than one million children across the UK.
The pupils completed a two- kilometre course at Bishop Barrington School as part of the national event, which encourages children to get fit and healthy through exercise and healthy eating. Now in its seventh year, the event is organised by those behind the world famous Great North Run and Tesco. Over one million children across the UK are taking part between 9th May and 22nd July – and this year’s event is also encouraging parents and teachers to get involved.
Famous supporters include model, TV presenter and marathon runner Nell McAndrew and Olympic medallist and three-time world record holder Colin Jackson.
Mr Ben Johnson Director of Sport from Bishop Barrington School, said, “It was fantastic to see our own pupils and pupils from partner primary schools completing in this national fun run. Luckily the weather was fine and all the pupils enjoyed the event and gave 100%.

It is part of our commitment to encourag- ing people to get active and lead healthier lifestyles. “Over four million children have taken part in The Tesco Great School Run since its launch in 2005.
