A project to celebrate 80 years of VE Day has been completed with the help of children from a local primary school.
Pupils from Middlestone Moor Primary Academy planted flowers in the flowerbed of Grayson Road in Middlestone Moor on Tuesday, 24th June, 2025, to complete the design.
Speaking about her pupils being part of the project, Year 5 school teacher Liane Bowden said, “Some children from Year 4 and 5 at MMPA took part in planting flowers in the flower bed on Grayson Road, which commemorates 80 years since VE Day.
“All children enjoyed contributing to help make our environment a nicer place for all to enjoy.”
Having the school involved in the project was organised by Durham County Council’s Civic Pride department at the request of Spenny-
moor County Councillor, Pete Molloy.
Cllr Molloy said: “It’s always good to get young children involved in projects like this as it teaches them to take pride in their community, which they will hopefully continue as they get older.
“I would like to thank Middlestone Moor Primary for agreeing to participate in the project, DCC’s Civic Pride and Clean Green for making the project happen, and Cllr Liz Maddison for coming along to support the children.”
