A new bench has been placed in Timothy Hackworth Park to mark the legacy of a daughter and Shildon girl.
David Moore and his wife Susan took to social media to thank Shildon Town Council and all who had donated to the purchase of a bench in memory of their daughter Emily, who sadly passed away in February of 2020 at just 18 years old.
Her passing saw national headlines when a case concerning her care and wellbeing at a mental health facility in the county was brought to court after Emily had taken her own life.
The bench dedicated to her name has a unique plaque. As well as her name and details, it also includes a QR code which can be scanned to signpost people to mental health support services.
Among those donating, David gave particular thanks to Emily’s friends since primary school, Eve Bainbridge and Caitlin Stanley.
The message saw many reactions with people commenting on the beautiful tribute, the great idea of including the QR code, the hope that the bench brings comfort to the family that Emily will never be forgotten.
