Eight-year-old Ashton Shaw, a pupil at Springmoor Grange School in Spennymoor, has made his family and school incredibly proud after becoming a two-time national Taekwondo champion, writes volunteer community reporter Sarah Payne.
Ashton competed in the under-22kg category at the national championships in Manchester, where he remained undefeated and finished the competition with an impressive total score of 84–4.
Proud dad Ben Shaw was blown away by Ashton’s performance and was quick to praise the young champion for his dedication and determination. He also gave special thanks to Ashton’s coach, Amy Bone, and everyone at Team Warrior Taekwondo in Willington, Durham, for their continued support and encouragement.
Team Warrior Taekwondo is passionate about making martial arts accessible and affordable for people of all ages and abilities, helping young athletes like Ashton develop not only their skills, but also their confidence, discipline and determination.
With his next competition coming up in January, Ashton is already looking ahead to his next challenge.
With two national titles already under his belt, this talented young champion is certainly one to watch — and his journey is only just beginning.
