With just six games remaining in the National League North season, Spennymoor Town FC are in the thick of the playoff battle, just two points adrift of the qualification places.

And the Moors could take a giant step forward in the race when they visit York City on Good Friday, who are just two points above them and currently occupying a coveted playoff place.

When the sides met earlier in the season, it was the Minstermen who left the Brewery Field with all three points, recording a 1-3 away win in front of a bumper crowd of over 2,600.

Moors will be hoping for a similar story as they travel back from the LNER Community Stadium on Good Friday evening.

Last weekend, Jude Oyibo netted another late winner to secure a vital three points for Moors, closing the gap to the playoffs in what joint manager, Anthony Johnson hailed as a “massive result”.

Oyibo kept his cool to find the top corner twelve minutes from time, breaking Leamington’s stubborn resistance and moving Moors above Hereford in a congested National League North table.

The contest was delayed by an hour and fifteen minutes after Leamington’s coach broke down en-route to County Durham, with the match commencing at a later time of 4.15pm.

Chances were at a premium for Moors and Leamington almost made them pay when Stephan Morley flashed a shot wide via a deflection.

However, after a goalless first half, the introduction of Ryan Hall 25 minutes from time brought encouragement, with the winger’s delivery finding the head of Glen Taylor, but Callum Hawkins was equal to the effort in the Leamington goal.

The deadlock was finally broken twelve minutes from time when the ball fell kindly to Jude Oyibo in the area, and with the goalkeeper to beat, the winger kept his composure and arrowed a shot into the top corner to keep Moors’ playoff hopes alive as they head for York.
