During last week’s Byerley Ward PACT meeting there were a number of interesting and topical issues discussed.
One gentleman mentioned how he had recently been in his house with his wife and received a knock on the door from someone he believed to be a ‘cold caller’.
On this particular occasion the gentleman did the correct thing and didn’t answer the door. This was particularly due to the inappropriately late time of calling at his address.
PC Littlefair commended the gentleman for not answering the door and stressed that elderly people in particular must think very carefully before answering their doors to strangers.
Another issue discussed related to how some of the electrical equipment we can now buy has built-in trackers to locate property if it were to be stolen.
One lady mentioned how her ipad had a tracker facility installed on it which would enable her to trace it if it were ever stolen.
PC Littlefair commented, “Advances in technology nowadays such as tracking devices are helping the police combat crime more effectively, and publicising information such as this should act as a great deterrent to criminals.”
One issue that has been regularly mentioned lately at the Byerley PACT meetings is dog fouling and how residents are finding it disgusting that dog mess is being left on our streets.
Dog owners should be aware that it is an offence to not pick up dog mess from a public place.
Shildon now has a designated Council Warden, and one of the warden’s main objectives is to identify people responsible for dog fouling. Anyone caught committing this offence will receive a fine.
If anybody witnesses a dog fowling offence they are requested to inform Shildon Police on 101.
