Shildon and Bishop Auckland Area Action Partnership has recently launched a ‘Your Area, Your Money, Your Views Community Grants Fund.’
Not for profit community groups or organisation in this AAP area can apply for a grant ranging from £500 to £2,000.
Application must address local priorities identified for the area, including Crime and Community Safety, Employment and Job Prospects or Children and Young People.

Applications close on 13th September 2013.
The final decision on where the funding goes will be made by members of the public at a voting event which will take place on Saturday 16th November 2013 at Bishop Auckland College.
Groups whose applications meet the funding criteria will need to promote their projects locally and encourage people to go along and vote.
A spokesperson for the Shildon and Bishop Auckland AAP commented, “This way of awarding money has already proved successful in other AAP areas, where hundreds of people turned up to cast their vote.
“At the voting events, members of the public will also have the opportunity to help the council decide how future savings in the authority’s overall budget can be made.
“At a time of increased pressure on council budgets, the authority recognises the importance of ensuring the public are able to influence decision-making.”
