On Saturday 4th May, Auckland Martial Arts Academy students, Ellie Barker and Ben Goldsborough, travelled to Solihull to compete in the WKA British Open Muay Thai Boxing Championships.
Ellie entered the girls’ 9-10yrs under 35kg category and progressed convincingly to the final, and was ecstatic to be presented with the winner’s belt and become the New WKA British Champion 2013.
Ben Goldsborough entered the male 16-17yrs under 70kg category. It was a hard fought final and Ben was only just beaten, taking the silver medal position.
Both Ben and Ellie reside in Bishop Auckland, attending local schools. Ellie has trained at Auckland Martial Arts Academy for 3 years and Ben for 4 years. Their achievements have earned them entry into the WKA World Championships, to be held in Italy in October.
Auckland Martial Arts Academy is a small club, situated in Bishop Auckland Market Place, and is run by several coaches, all of whom give their time and experience freely.
Senior Instructor, Richy Welsh said, “We are very proud of what both Ben and Ellie have achieved and would love the opportunity to take them to Italy to compete in the World Championships.
