Dear Editor,
In the June 12th issue, Mr P Laidler laid down the challenge to long term residents of Spennymoor to contradict him if anyone’s quality of life in the town had not been adversely affected by its expansion. I cannot do that, having moved here with my family a decade ago. My wife and I are public servants in the healthcare and education sectors. Our decade of caring for and educating people in the area may have come at an apparent cost to P. Laidler, for which I can only apologise. However I would be surprised if people like us who need homes to live in have indeed adversely affected the area. It would be interesting to if there was data to support that assertion.
Development will always lead nimbyism. However there were relatively few objections to the development in question.
Spennymoor has been a wonderful home to our family and I’m sure the residents of the 2500 homes built since our arrival will feel the same.
