Shildon’s juniors kicked off the season with some great results and performances.
The under 8s travelled to Leven Athletic and came away with an 8-2 victory. Jack Leighton (5) James Plews (2) and Ben Moore (1) were the second half scorers, after going into the break 2-0 down. Jack picked up the man of the match award.
The under 10’s travelled to Darlington to take on 21st All Stars. A superb team performance saw the lads run out 4-0 winners with goals from Kane Hopwood (2) and James Rusby (2). Jacob Race picked up the MOM award.
The under 7’s started their first ever competitive match with a resounding 13-0 victory. Charlie Brown opened the scoring in the 2nd minute and added a further 5 goals. Noah Fawcett scored a superb free kick from the half way line on his way to a hat trick, with Sam Hopper scoring 4.
Shildon AFC goalkeepers made great saves and this ensured kept Shildon a clean sheet.
The Under 9’s played their first ever game together at home to Ferryhill Youth. After a nervous first half, which saw the team go in 6-0 down, the team settled down and played some excellent football. In the second half they scored three themselves, with Kian Dixon (2) and Michael Gaffney (1) giving the home crowd something to cheer. Goalkeeper Jamie Donohue received the MOM award for some excellent saves. In the friendly, goals from Kian Dixon (2) and Michael Gaffney (1) helped the team to a 3-3 draw.
An under strength under 11’s team suffered an 11-2 defeat at home to Hartlepool Warriors whilst the under 16’s kicked off their first competitive fixture away to Stockton Rangers, losing 6-5 despite dominating for long periods, but not taking their chances.
