Shildon Railway Cricket Club’s first season in the newly formed Durham Cricket League ended with a 1st XI defeat at Bill Quay, which means that the two senior teams will compete in DCL Division 2 next season.
On the banks of the Tyne, the home side posted 177 for 9, after Shildon had their hosts struggling at 95 for 7, Robert Nevison being the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 26.
Shildon’s reply began brightly with skipper Greg Upton again to the fore with 47 but the innings faded and the side was all out for 147.
The season may have finished but the club will be very busy during the coming weeks and throughout the close season.
Firstly, ground renovation work is under way, as huge efforts to repair the square and outfield are being made to repair the accidental damage which occurred in May.
“This work is absolutely necessary and unfortunately very costly. We are working very hard to raise funds to meet these costs,” said a club spokesman.
The Senior Players’ Presentation Night will take place on Saturday 28th September at the BR and all players and supporters are urged to attend.
