Shildon’s senior club runners took to the roads again this week in preparation for their assault on the Great North Run.
The Tees Pride 10k provided the opportunity for the athletes to stretch their legs and fine tune their final preparations.
John Gray, club treasurer, one of only a handful of runners to complete every Great North Run, made his return from injury ahead of next week’s big race.
David Anderson led the Shildon athlete’s home in 38.58 and chasing him to the finish were Chris Griffith (42.11), Greame Nicholson (42.59), David Johnson (44.46), David Beadle (45.50), Liz Wood (46.36), Ian Rudge (48.30), Phil Crow (53.13), Helen Race (58.01) and Peter Lawson (58.05).
Representing the youngsters in the junior 3k, Chloe Fairclough finished 3rd female.
Meanwhile representing the u13 girl’s in the City of York open meet, Rachel Bennett prolonged her season to win gold in the 100m in a new pb of 13.6s.
Leah Rutherford also delayed her winter break to participate in the meet and was rewarded with a bronze medal in the u11g long jump and a 4th place finish in the 75m.
Leah also competed in the Sale open meeting the previous week where she sped to a silver medal in 14.9s in the 100m.
Back in Shildon, the Hackworth Park run saw Cameron Stainsby (19.27) race to 1st place with Amy Etherington (19.31) only just behind. Gary Bainbridge, following them home in 8th place (23.01), was the next best Shildon athlete and 4th female home Hazel Johnson completed the course just outside of her pb in 25.31s.
