The kids of the Community Garden Summer Club were delighted with their successes in Shildon’s horticultural show last week.
During the summer of weekly activities, they planted, harvested, learned to recognise common weeds, and made miniature gardens.
Laura Edwards found herself with two first prizes and a second, whilst Becky Ramsey was also proud to receive a first, a second and a third.
Lottie Cunningham, Sally Coates, and Ben Farlow were also prize winners whilst Christian Robinson got a special mention.
Many of the children made animals with fruit and vegetables, some of which they picked from the garden and some of which was donated by Morrison’s.
Paula Nelson, garden co-ordinator commenting after the show spoke about how proud she was of the kids, of all they had achieved, and their interest in learning to garden.
“Their smiles”, said Reverend David, “as they wandered around the show afterwards said it all!”
