Criminals in the Bishop Auckland area will be getting an extra-special delivery from Cupid’s arrow next week – courtesy of their local police.
As part of an ongoing campaign to detect and deter people involved in shop thefts, officers from the town’s neighbourhood policing team will be sending known offenders Valentine’s, birthday and Christmas cards in 2017 as a reminder police will be watching out for them throughout the year.
The cards will be sent to those who have previously committed offences at the Tindale / St Helen Auckland retail park and in Bishop Auckland town centre.
And in the next few days, the specially-designed Valentine’s cards will be dropping through letterboxes, each bearing a message to “Spend Valentine’s Day with your loved one, not us.”
Similar reminders are in the birthday and Christmas cards.
“In the next few days our local criminals will be getting a Valentine’s card but it won’t be from a secret admirer,” said Inspector Andy Reeves.
“We will deliver them by hand to the top ten offenders in each area, with others receiving their cards in the post.
“And when it’s their birthday and in the run-up to Christmas they can expect us to stay in touch as we will be thinking of them.”
