Community invited to mark Remembrance Sunday

Bishop Auckland Town Council will host its annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday 8 November.

Bishop Auckland Town Council will host its annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday 8 November, gathering from 10.30am for a service at 11am.

This important event, held in partnership with the Royal British Legion, the Durham Light Infantry (DLI), the 8th Battalion the Rifles, and Bishop Auckland Parish, provides an opportunity for the community to come together to remember and honour those who gave their lives in service to our country.

The parade, led by the 8th Battalion the Rifles, will assemble outside the Newgate Centre entrance from 10.30am before parading along Newgate Street, across the Market Place to the War Memorial, for the Acts of Remembrance and short service that will take place at approximately 11.15am. Those wishing to join the parade are asked to muster from 10.30am ready to parade just before 11am.

Mayor Michael Siddle said: “Remembrance Sunday is an important time for us all to pause, reflect and remember those who have served our country, both past and present. This annual parade provides an opportunity for our community to come together in tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who continue to serve. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pay our respects and ensure their courage and commitment are never forgotten.”

Those wishing to lay a wreath are asked to gather from 10.30am at St Anne’s Church, where they will be asked to follow the parade to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance, at 11am.

Following this, everyone is welcome to join the Service of Remembrance in St Anne’s Church in the Market Place at approximately 11.15am led by Reverend Matt Keddilty of Bishop Auckland Parish.

All members of the public are warmly invited to attend and join the community in this important act of remembrance.
