In collaboration with Spennymoor Town Council, St Paul’s Church is trialling a wildflower area in a corner of the churchyard.
It may look barren at first, but over time the seeds they have sown will grow into a colourful display. The area will help pollinators such as bees and other insects, provide food and shelter to birds and other animals.
At the recent Muddy Church event, children helped build bug hotels and these will certainly come in handy! Such initiatives can help solve the environmental crisis, however small they are.
The wildflower trial will be evaluated in the autumn and feed into future management plans for the churchyard.
