Two local primary school children, who are cousins, completed the Cancer Research UK ‘Race For Life’ at South Park, Darlington on Sunday 7th June.
Faye Stokoe, aged 8, from Coundon, who attends St John’s CoE School, and her cousin, Michaela Fitzgerald, also 8 from Byerley Road, who attends Timothy Hackworth School, both ran to raise money in remembrance of Audrey Fitzgerald, Faye’s great-grannie and Michaela’s grandma respectively, who sadly taken by the disease nearly two years ago.
They completed the race along side Faye’s grandma, Elaine Dack and Michaela’s mother, Melanie Fitzgerald.The run was the idea of the young girls who, coming from a close-knit family, were devastated by the loss of Audrey – their first experience of death when they were just six years old.
The amounts raised by the four were Faye £350, Michaela £97, Elaine £175, and Melanie £69 for an outstanding total of £691.
