Bishop Auckland FC recorded their first points in the Northern Premier League East Division with a comeback 1-2 win at Ashington in midweek.
The away win comes after a last gasp loss at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels on the opening day of the season, just when it looked like the Two Blues would open the new campaign with a comfortable win.
However, they let slip a two-goal lead in the final quarter of the game, having led through Oscar Eckley-Aldsworth’s 36th minute opener, which was doubled just after the hour by Louis Johnston.
But the visitors came roaring back through Marshall (65) and Haslam (76) before Phillipson snatched all three points for the away side with a 90th minute winner.
Bishops travelled to familiar territory in midweek when they visited the Colliers of Ashington and returned home with all three points, courtesy of a second half Matty Tymon double.
The hosts took the lead seven minutes before the break through Paddy Almond, but two goals in four minutes immediately after the break (46 and 50) were enough, after surviving some late scares, to see the Two Blues notch their first league win since promotion.
The Woodhorn Lane ground will be even more familiar territory this weekend as Bishops return to the scene of their midweek victory to take on the same hosts in the FA Cup Preliminary Round – a match that has been selected by the BBC for live broadcast on the iPlayer service.
It’s then back to league action at Heritage Park in midweek, when Pontefract Collieries will be Tuesday night’s visitors.
