Following a successful campaign to recruit additional town councillors, Ferryhill Town Council received three applications from interested candidates.
The three candidates were invited to a Special Council meeting on 11 March and were each given five minutes to introduce themselves, provide information on their background, and experience and explain why they wished to become councillors.
All three candidates gave excellent presentations, and all demonstrated a passion for becoming councillors of Ferryhill Town Council, willing to make a difference to the community they will serve.
Two of the new Councillors have visited the Town Hall to have their photographs taken. Both explained why they are excited to take up the mantle as local councillors.
Cllr Anthony Hewitt said: โI have met some really wonderful people since moving to Ferryhill. They have been welcoming and kind and I have seen how many people work so hard to help the community. So, I decided it was time that I stood up and did my part in trying to make Ferryhill a better place to live for all its residents.โ
Cllr Keith Lloyd said: โI am very happy to join Ferryhill Town Council as a councillor for the Broom ward. I have lived in Ferryhill for 72 years, and think it is time to give something back to this community.โ
Cllr Liam Fellows, a previous town councillor who has decided to rejoin the council to help plug the gaps in representation, was unavailable to have his photograph taken; however, he did want to explain why he was happy to return to the Town Council.
Cllr Fellows said: โI was really sad to see so many vacancies on the Town Council following the local elections last May and that they hadnโt managed to be filled since. I really enjoyed my time on Ferryhill Town Council previously so thought Iโd once again offer my serviceโ.
โIโm passionate about improving the councilโs facilities, what it provides for residents in the town and how the council communicates with the community. Hopefully working with the rest of the council and officers, we can strive to continue making these improvements.โ
