A County Councillor has held a site meeting with Officers from Durham County Council’s Clean and Green team to finalise where crocus bulbs will be planted as part of a project to visually improve some areas of Middlestone Moor and Spennymoor.
The project, devised by Cllr Pete Molloy and paid from his Neighbourhood Budget, has already seen 3,000 crocuses and 2,000 daffodil bulbs recently planted on Spennymoor Town Council land in Byers Green.
The project will involve the planting of a further 10,000 crocus bulbs on Durham County Council verges in Central Drive and Chestnut Avenue within the next couple of weeks.
In Byers Green, the crocus bulbs have been planted around the trees on the village green and the daffodil bulbs have been planted on the edge of the Hagg Lane play area.
Speaking about the project, Cllr Molloy said, “For a while now, I had been thinking of a of project that would brighten up a few areas for local residents, so I thought the planting of bulbs would be ideal and when they flower from late winter to early spring, they would certainly do that.”
