Cricket matches across much of the country were cancelled on Saturday as the dreadful spell of wet weather continued, reports John Brennan.
Shildon Railway’s 1st team trip to Maltby and Northallerton’s visit to play the 2nd team at Securicorp Park were both abandoned, leaving players ever more frustrated by the lack of games in recent weeks. “Some of the lads are thinking of taking up water polo,” quipped a demoralised first team player.
If the weather gods allow, the 1st team will host league leaders Bedale in the North Yorks. & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2 and the 2nd team will visit King James in the Darlington & District Cricket League Division C fixture.
On Monday evening (14th) the 3rd team is scheduled to entertain Cliffe in a home friendly, and as the Crier goes to press, a combined XI plays at Aldborough St John in the quarter finals of the Fenwick Cup.
Hopefully, next week we can report on some cricket having been played. Fingers crossed!
