The miserable spell of wet weather this month continues to play havoc with cricket fixtures across the region as both of Shildon Railway’s senior sides’ games were cancelled on a soggy Saturday, writes
John Brennan.
Hartlepool were due to be the visitors to SecuriCorp Park in the North Yorks. & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2 and both sides will be disappointed that they were unable to put further pressure on the league leaders Bedale.
Shildon’s 2nd team fixture at Barton, in the S.G. Petch Darlington District Cricket League Division C, also fell foul of the weather and the Railwaymen remain in second place. Hopes that Sunday would see better weather were dashed, and overnight and early morning rain put paid to Shildon’s home game against local rivals Newton Aycliffe. This fixture had been scheduled as the first of the season and had been rearranged by the league management committee only once more to be lost on account of the weather.
This Saturday, weather permitting, Shildon welcome Darlington to SecuriCorp Park in the NYSD game and the 2nd XI travels to Northallerton in the DDL fixture. During midweek, the 2nd team progressed to the semi-final of the Fenwick Cup when Barton unfortunately were forced to concede the game.
