Shildon Railway Cricket Club received a huge boost when one of its young players received a call to represent Durham County Under 19s in the forthcoming two day game against Lancashire.
Bret Upton, aged eighteen, has come through the ranks of the club’s junior sides and is a strong top order batsman and medium quick pace bowler.
Bret, who is obviously delighted and honoured by his selection, already has a century to his name this season and last season bowled at the great Sachin Tendulkar when India toured and visited the Riverside ground at Chester le Street.
Bret, who has just finished sixth form at Barnard Castle School, starts a course in Business Management at York University in September.
Cricket certainly runs through the family’s veins, as older brother Greg is Shildon’s first team captain at the tender age of nineteen, whilst father Paul is an active committee member and grandfather John Pollock is a keen supporter and sponsor of the club.
“We’re a very proud club and are thrilled for Bret to have achieved this honour,” said a club spokesman.
