Shildon Railway Cricket Club’s senior sides both enjoyed victories in their Durham Cricket League fixtures last weekend (20th July).
At home, the first XI struggled against Peterlee’s spin attack but Martin Ferguson (42) and Greg Upton (61) steered the innings to 189 for 9 before declaration.
Shildon soon had Peterlee on the back foot but a middle order rally looked ominous for the Railwaymen.
However, Robert Nevison’s 3 for 30 tipped things back in Shildon’s favour and the opposition was all out for 139.
At Peterlee the home side posted 189 for 9 in the second teams clash with newly appointed vice-captain Matthew Summerbell taking 3 for 27.
Shildon’s reply was solid with Michael Condron (46), Andrew Paterson (38) and Thomas Moss (30) piloting the side to a victory on 191 for 6.
Results have improved and show that when Shildon turn out their strongest sides that they are a match for most teams in the league.
However, next Saturday will see the club’s resources sorely tested as five regular first team players are on holiday.
Forthcoming fixtures include the FI5 Competition, Shildon Locos (the boys in pink) at Evenwood on Friday 26th July and 1st XI v Ryhope at home on Saturday 27th July with the second team away in the reverse fixture.
