Following concerns raised by local residents, local Lib Dem councillors Bill Thorkildsen and Dean Ranyard held a recent meeting with Inspector Mike Sammut and PCSO Emily Curry at Spennymoor Police Station to discuss issues around crime and anti-social behaviour in the local area.
Following the meeting a walkabout of parts of the Low Spennymoor and Tudhoe Grange ward took place to highlight some of the problem areas. The police are aware of most of the issues that were raised and are doing what they can within the powers they have and the resources available to respond to them.
One of the main things to come out of the discussions is that incidents must be reported directly to the police. If a crime is taking place then please call 999. If you’d like to report a non-urgent incident, anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity then call the 101 number or use the 101 Live Chat.
Cllr Ranyard said: “The more reports received, the more the police will be able to prioritise a particular issue or area and target resources appropriately.”
Cllr Thorkildsen added: “I would encourage residents who are concerned to attend the monthly Police and Communities Together (PACT) meetings if they have specific queries or issues to put to the local policing team.”
The next PACT meeting will be at Spennymoor Town Hall on Wednesday 30th August beginning at 6pm.
