Last week, Ferryhill Town and Durham County Councillor, Joe Quinn organised a walkabout in Ferryhill.
“A walkabout is a great way of getting out in the streets of Ferryhill and identifying issues and engaging with residents about their concerns,” explained Cllr Quinn. “In recent times we have had a few in the Station and Dean Bank,” he said. “I intend on doing some around the Broom area in the coming months.
“One of the young Ambassadors mentioned they lived in the Broom Ward and would like to have one there. The walkabout was organised through our excellent safer communities officer, Kate Ward. Dean Bank School Ambassadors came along with Glenys Newby of Approach Too.
“We were also joined by Cllr Sue Jones, Cllr Curtis Bihari, community activist Jacqueline Cansella, PACT chair Val Watson and the local PCSO, Dave Evans. It was fantastic to look around the area with the young Ambassadors and listen to their input. Ultimately these children are the future of our great little town and they should be involved with these types of community engagement.
“Another advantage to having these youngsters is they simply say it how it is! No filter, which is actually really refreshing to hear! One of the Ambassadors said something that we all thought was quite inspirational: ‘Even though it doesn’t seem important to you, it’s important to us.’
“This was said to Kate while discussing quality of life and how different things can impact residents, such as littering, fly tipping and noise nuisance. We all, working together, identified areas of concern and raised issues in and around the area. These issues will be logged and then actioned in the coming weeks.”
