Pupils at Etherley Lane Primary School recently received a visit from Durham’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Ron Hogg, who went along to announce the results of his logo design competition, of which some of the pupils were winners.
Mr Hogg first visited the school in November as part of National Anti-Bullying Week, when he invited pupils from Years 5 and 6 to design a logo for his campaign to tackle Cyber Bullying. Mr Hogg said, Friday morning was an excellent example of youth engagement with a subject that is very relevant to all young people. Etherley Lane pupils are genuinely interested in learning about how to stay safe online and what to do if they feel they may be bullied, or how they could support a friend being bullied, in the future.”
Richard Lee from Hartlepool, who has been a recent victim of Cyber Bullying, was invited by Mr Hogg to accompany him to the school on Friday.
The pupil with the winning strap line for Mr Hogg’s campaign was Cole Patton, age 9, who won a Kindle Fire. In second place for the logo design was Anthony Howells, age 11, and third place was Benjamin Jefferson, age 9, who both won Waterstones gift vouchers.
