The Shildon Community Bus has been running for over 20 years, providing community transport in Shildon and the surrounding areas (approximately an 8 mile radius) at affordable prices. They have two sixteen seater buses, one of which one has a wheel chair lift. All drivers are trained and tested to the MIDAS standard, a DVLA approved standard, and assessors are fully trained and certified. Groups can register to use the service at a small annual affiliation fee of £20 for the year.
The Community Bus is used by a broad spectrum of groups, ranging from Scouts and Guides through to more senior members. The groups are able to book a bus for trips to any destination; such as local shopping trips or days at the seaside. Groups are also able to nominate their own drivers and The Community Bus will train and test them to meet the required standard.
Charges are based on the mileage used, at £1.20 per mile for the first 60 miles then 80p per mile thereafter.
The Community Bus is always looking for volunteers as well as groups who wish to join, and as a totally voluntary organisation they always welcome sponsorship and support of any kind.
Anyone interested in using the service should call 01388 773666 between 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday, or call in at the Shildon Methodist Church Hall (office at rear of hall) during these times.
