On Sunday 12 November, over 500 residents joined the the Mayor, Deputy Lord Lieutenant N Schneider, and other civic representatives in the nation’s Remembrance Day service.
Following a thoughtful service from Rev Lumsdon at St Alban’s Church, residents proceeded to Town Square and the War Memorial.
After the short service, and two-minute silence, many wreaths were laid from the British Legion, Town Council, Junior Town Council, County Cllr Julie Cairns and many groups and individuals from Chilton.
Prayers during the service were read by two ex-servicemen.
The Mayor said: “We were honoured that so many residents came out in force to join us for this special occasion.
“Many people were involved, whom I thank, and particular thanks to Deputy Lord Lieutenant Schneider, our Junior Mayor, Reverend Lumsdon and our ex-servicemen for their thoughtful readings.
“I must give a special thank you on behalf of Chilton to Alderman Christine Potts who represented the Royal British Legion as always.
“Christine has been co-ordinating the British Legion Poppy Appeal in Chilton for 49 years, which is such a wonderful commitment.”
